What is a biological calendar for diving?

The diving biological calendar tracks seasonal marine-life events per site: whale-shark breeding seasons, humpback-whale migration, hammerhead-shark aggregations on seamounts, coral spawnings and plankton blooms. divewindow.app cross-references these events with the daily sea forecast — so you know not only whether physical conditions are good, but whether the target marine life will actually be there.

Combined with swell, wind, currents and ENSO phase, it produces a Score 0–100 per site and day. More detail at how divewindow.app works.

Frequently asked questions

Direct answers to the most common questions about the diving forecast.

How can I tell which sites have the best diving conditions this week?

divewindow.app computes a daily Score 0–100 for every site, combining swell, wind, current, ENSO phase and biological calendar. Sites scoring above 90 have exceptional conditions; 75 to 89 is good; below 55 is not recommended. The “Best conditions this week” section on the home page shows the live ranking for the next 7 days.

Which Caribbean sites (including the Mexican Caribbean) have the best conditions today?

The Caribbean ranking updates each morning with data from Open-Meteo Marine and NOAA. divewindow.app covers the Mexican Caribbean (Cozumel, Riviera Maya, cenotes), Belize (Hol Chan, Blue Hole), Honduras (Roatán, Utila), Colombia (Rosario, Providencia, San Andrés) and Cuba (Jardines de la Reina, Pinar del Río). Filter by country or region on the map.

Where can I find the dive-site map?

The interactive map at /en/explore shows the 100+ indexed sites with their current Score color-coded, plus filters by country, certification, depth and marine life. Every pin links to the detailed 7-day forecast for that site.

What certification level is each site for?

Each site profile shows the minimum recommended certification (Open Water, Advanced, Deep or Rescue), typical depth and suggested logged dives. For example: Cozumel Palancar Bricks is Open Water with mild current; Cocos Bajo Alcyone requires Advanced + strong-current experience; Malpelo El Arrecife is Advanced or Rescue with 50+ logged dives.
